NiceGuy asked:

i flushed the system with plenty of water, will that be sufficient?
My dad filled the gallon of atifreeze with diesel and never removed the label. I poured a quart without knowing and drove it for 2,000 miles then after I changed my thermostat today. I started pouring some when my dad told me it was actually diesel. I drained and flushed the radiator with a lot of water and filled it with new antifreeze. Will that be sufficient or do I still have to worry ?

Wow, never heard of anyone doing something like that! If you flushed it, and it runs fine, dont worry about it. Coolant keeps the car from overheating, you could run your car on beer if you wanted to, I wouldnt recommend it thought. It doesnt have anything to do with the combustion process, so I dont see how it could hurt anything.

yes that will be alright ,as long as you didn’t run it much ,what will happen is it will damage the seal in the water pump and cause it to leak, but if you flushed everything out really well ,it should be alright ,just keep a close check on it for a while ,to make sure its not got any more in it,and it should be alright, good luck with it hope this helps.

That’s a new one. Since you flushed it all out, then you should be fine. I can’t see any harm, but keep an eye on it for a while. The diesel fuel may have some affect on the rubber componints in the cooling system. I doubt if it was in there long enough to do any real damage to the parts. good luck.

    no.
flushing with water will not get out all the diesel. you also need to get all the water out now. water in most newer engines will also do damage to the engine.
without going into to many details, water will create a battery effect in the engine and eat away at the insides like cancer.
get it flushed by a good shop that you trust, and make sure they refill the cooling system with a compatible 50/50 coolant.
